Young Americans Overseas will honor Veterans by giving a 2017 toast.

Governor Edwards from Louisiana is sending Mr. Tom Green, Commissioner Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, to represent on his behalf. Tom served in the United States Marine Corps, 7th and 8th Engineers, 1st Marine Division, from 1969 thru 1976. As a veteran of the Viet Nam Era, Tom graduated at top of his class in Nuclear, Biological, Chemical, and Radiological studies from Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. While attending the Staff Command Academy at Quantico, Va. he trained officers in the various skills required for deployment/dispersal of defoliants and decontamination protocol. Tom obtained a masters degree in business and Civil Preparedness. He is the Co-Chairman of the Veterans Action Coalition of Southwest Louisiana and currently serves as a Commissioner for Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, working closely with the Louisiana Secretary of Veterans Affairs and the Governor. Members of the Lamar University cheer squad will also attend the New Years Toast to Veterans.

The afternoon will start with a short presentation about the launch of the Veteran Academy followed by an award ceremony and a champagne toast.
